The Perfect Weekend in Fredericksburg, TX: A 2-Day Itinerary

Two days is just about right for a first trip to Fredericksburg — enough to taste the wine, walk Main Street, and get a little history and nature in without rushing. Here's a weekend plan that clusters things geographically so you're not zig-zagging across the county. Adjust to taste (Fritz can build you a custom version — more on that at the end).

Before you go

• Book Enchanted Rock day passes if you plan to hike (it fills up, especially weekends).
• Line up a wine shuttle or designated driver for your tasting day.
• Make a dinner reservation for at least Saturday night — the good spots fill up.
• Many wineries are closed Mon–Tue, so a Fri–Sun weekend is ideal.

Day 1 — Main Street, history & a German dinner

Morning: Start slow on Main Street with coffee and a pastry, then wander the shops and Marktplatz (the Vereins Kirche and maypole). History buffs should give the National Museum of the Pacific War a few hours — it's worth it.

Lunch: Grab a casual bite downtown — a biergarten patio or a Main Street café.

Afternoon: More browsing, or duck into a downtown wine tasting room if you want a low-key pour without driving. In summer, hit a peach stand on the way.

Evening: Lean into the German thing — schnitzel and a stein at Der Lindenbaum or Otto's, or a livelier night at a biergarten like Altdorf or the Fredericksburg Brewing Company.

Day 2 — Wine Road 290 (and maybe a sunrise hike)

Early (optional): If you booked it, hike Enchanted Rock first thing — early beats both the crowds and the heat.

Late morning: Head out to Wine Road 290. Start with a scenic, historic stop like Becker Vineyards, then a quieter, winemaker-driven room like Pedernales Cellars or William Chris in Hye. Two to three tastings is the sweet spot.

Lunch: Many wineries have food, or picnic between stops. Keep it light so the afternoon stays fun.

Afternoon: One more tasting, or peel off for Wildseed Farms or the tiny dance-hall town of Luckenbach.

Evening: A relaxed Hill Country dinner — Cabernet Grill or Vaudeville if you want something special to close the trip.

Variations

• With kids: Swap a winery stop for Wildseed Farms and Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, and time Old Tunnel for the evening bat flight (May–October). Plenty of wineries are family-friendly, too.
• Couples: Favor the quiet, intimate tasting rooms, book a nicer dinner, and leave the afternoon loose.
